Active transport is a phenomenon in which the passage of substances, such as salts and ions, takes place from its lower concentration to its higher concentration using the energy from the cell itself. This is the total opposite to the phenomenon of diffusion where the passage of substances takes place from its higher concentration to its lower concentration without the use of energy.
