(a) The basic nuclear process involved in the beta decay and emission of β + in a symbolic form, by a radioactive nucleus is given as:
After β + particle emission, the mass number (A) remains the same but atomic number (Z) decreases by 1 unit.
(b) In the reactions given :
(i)
Since, a neutrino is emitted, it is a β + particleemission , thus the other particle emitted is a β + particle. And thus the atomic number is decreased by 1 and the atomic mass remains same after the nuclear process. So it becomes,
Thus , the value of x is β + particle i.e. positron, y is 5 and z is 11.
(ii)
From the conservation of atomic mass on both the sides of the equation We know that the atomic number of Ne, He is 10 and 2 respectively and the atomic mass of He is 4 . Thus, a is 10, b is 2 and c is 4.
