(a) The colour of the ferrous sulphate crystals is green. When we heat the ferrous sulphate crystals, the following reaction takes place:
2FeSO4 + heat → Fe2O3 + SO2 + SO3
After heating, the colour of the ferrous sulphate crystals changes to white and lose water.
(b) Ferrous sulphate crystals decompose to ferric oxide (Fe2O3), Sulphur dioxide (SO2) and Sulphur trioxide (SO3). The above reaction is an example of a decomposition reaction in which a single reactant breaks down into two or more products.
