Answer :

a. The ability of the eye to focus both near and distant objects, by adjusting its focal length of the eye lens by the action of ciliary

muscles are called as the power of accommodation of the human eye.

The component of the eye which is responsible for the power of accommodation is ciliary muscle.


The student being not able to see the blackboard from the last bench of the rows confirms that the student is suffering from myopia or short-sightedness.

The ray diagram for the image formation of the student when seated at the (i) back seat (ii) front seat are as follow.

The two possible causes of this defect.

1. Either eyeball is longer than normal or.

2. The ciliary muscle which adjusts the focal length of length has become insufficient to adjust the maximum focal length of the eye lens according to the distant object.

This defect can be corrected by using a concave lens of suitable power.

The method of correction is shown in the ray diagram(C).
