(a) The student should use a convex lens as a convex lens produces a real image of the candle flame on the wall. Convex lens converges the rays and helps in obtaining the rel image of an obect.
(b) (i) Magnified image will be obtained by the student when the candle flame will be placed between f and 2f on the other side of the wall as shown in the ray diagram:
(ii) To obtain a real diminished image of the candle flame, the candle should be placed beyond 2f on the other side of wall as shown in the ray diagram:
