Q. 13

A solenoid is connected to a battery so that a steady current flows through it. If an iron core is inserted into the solenoid, will the current increase or decrease? Explain.

Answer :

We will find that magnetic flux increases as the iron core is inserted into the solenoid. According to Lenz’s law if flux increases then it opposes the cause which means to change the flux, in other words we can say to decrease the flux. For decreasing in flux current in iron coil should be decrease.

Hence current in iron coil will decrease.
