Give reasons for the following:

A plant cell, when kept in a hypertonic salt solution for about 30 minutes, turns flaccid.

Answer :

This is because a hypertonic solution is a solution whose concentration of salt is very high and when a plant cell is placed in it, exosmosis of water occurs as the cell has a higher concentration of water than the solution in which it is placed. This leads plasmolysis and thus the cell turns flaccid.
