Liverworts belong to Bryophytes. They are non-vascular plants which do not have water conductive tissue made up of Xylem and Phloem. They have simple system for conducting water and food.

A liverwort is unable to complete its life cycle in dry environment because:


(i) The fertilisation of male and female gametes takes place in water.


(ii) Male gametes, antherozoids, swim in water to reach the eggs for sexual reproduction to take place.
