(a) (i) Good Morning!
Today, I will speak about the importance of hard work and how it is the only way that eventually leads to success. Hard work is the only way that pays in life. While shortcuts to success seem easy and extremely tempting, people should stay away from them. This is because the success that is gained through these methods only exists for a brief moment. True, lasting success can only be gained through the blood, sweat and tears of one’s hard work.
Working hard not only enables one to reach his/her goal, but also teaches the person how to deal with success and gain the respect of others. Hence, people should strive to reach their goals with hard work and dedication.
(ii) Indian Railways is one the largest public sector enterprises in India. However, the condition of our rail transport is far from being world class. Most railway stations in the country are damaged, unclean and have no facility for disabled travelers. Trains almost always run late and often break down and have accidents. Hence, to improve our railways, the Government needs to look into the renovation of these sites. Washrooms, both in the trains as well as the stations need to be well maintained and clean for the use of passengers. Wheelchair and escort facilities should be available for those with disabilities. With certain improvements, our railways can definitely reach up to their potential.
(b) Good Morning!
Today I will be speaking on the topic, ‘Heavy school bags are a physical as well as mental burden’. I will be speaking for the motion. School books, while being an integral part of school life often become a huge burden in the lives of students. Carrying heavy bags to and from school every day makes students extremely tired and often affects their physical health. Many become averse to the idea of studies as they always associate their studies with the heavy bags they carry. Heavy school bags have been criticized on how it stunts the growth of children. Carrying books that are mean to be read every day is not very efficacious. This problem can easily be countered by introducing a personal locker system, or simply maintaining a common cupboard for the textbooks of students. Another method that can be used involves bringing printouts of the ongoing chapters in class, instead of the entire textbook. Utilizing online study material can also be very helpful. Therefore, these techniques can be used to reduce the physical and mental stress on students caused by heavy school bags. Carrying such a burden is of no practical gain and hardly allows the proper development of students.
In India, rivers are seen as holy. Many people worship rivers as they are seen as a source of the most precious and important natural resource – water. Besides, several other cultural reasons lead to rivers being seen as sacred. However, despite the exalted status provided to rivers, India happens to be a country where rivers are the most polluted. Not only are they a dumping ground for refuse from factories and refineries, people often dump non-biodegradable waste in them for so-called religious or cultural reasons. During festivals like Durga puja and Ganesh Chaturthi, idols containing toxic chemical and lead paints are dumped in rivers because of religious reasons. Therefore, there is the need to protect our rivers from such polluting activities. Strict punishment should be made effective for those who attempt to pollute the river through personal use. Sanctions need to be put in place for industries so that pollutants from factories don’t enter river water untreated. Waste treatment and sanitation drives should be prioritized for safeguarding rivers. Therefore, such tactics can help protect rivers, which are the lifelines for many in this country.
