Q. 17

(a) Differentiate

Answer :

(a)

(b) Plasmid are autonomously replicating circular extra-chromosomal DNA. Plasmids are DNA molecules which can replicate in bacterial, archaeal and eukaryotic cells and are generally circular in shape.

Plasmids are selected as vectors because they are self-replicating, small, easy to work with and transform into their host.

Plasmid being circular is used as vector as it can cleaved at one site with the help of an enzyme to give a linear DNA molecule.

It can be used to deliver alien piece of DNA into host organism.

Hence Plasmid is selected as vectors.
