Q. 36 B

# A car acquires a velocity of 36 km per hour in 10 minutes starting from rest. Find (i) the acceleration, (ii) the average velocity, and (iii) the distance travelled in this time.

Given:
u is the initial velocity = 0 m/s

v  is the final velocity = 36 Km/hr = 36 x (1000/3600)=10 m/s

t is the time period = 10 ×60 =600 s

a = 2 m/s2

avg. velocity=

formula used:

1. final velocity " V "= u + a × t

where ,
v is the final velocity
u is the initial velocity
a is the acceleration of the body
t is the time period

2. Using third equation of motion

v2  - u2  =2 × a × s

where,
v is the final velocity
u is the initial velocity
a is the acceleration
s is the displacement

putting the value of v,u,t in equation 1

10 =0 +a × 600

a = 0.0167   ms-2

putting the value of v,u,a,t in equation 2

100-0=2×0.0167×s

s =3000 m= 3 km

The average velocity is 5 m/s , acceleration is  0.0167 ms-2, displacement is 3 km
