1) Schottky type of stoichiometric defect is shown by KCl and due to the sizes of the two elements. The Potassium ion is almost similar to Chloride ion. In other words, Schottky effect is shown by ionic compounds like KCl as it possesses high coordination because cation and anion are similar in sizes.
2) n-type of semiconductor (extrinsic) is formed when silicon is doped with As. This type of semiconductor is formed when majority have electrons as carriers. When group 15th elements are doped with Silicon (a group 14th element), they from n-type semiconductor.
3) Carbon dioxide is called as a molecular solid. It is composed of weak Van der Waals forces, also the dipole moment is less than the ionic or covalent bonds. Further, molecular solids have low melting temperature and are fragile (soft).
4) Ferromagnetic substances are better substances to make magnets. The metal ions of the ferromagnetic substances form small groups which are known as domains where each such domain acts as an individual magnet. In the absence of magnetic field, the domains are randomly oriented but as soon as comes under the influence of a magnetic field, they show magnetic properties. Thus, they can be used to make permanent magnets.
